The BMW Group has been a committed "local player" in the US market for a quarter-century: On 23 June 1992, the BMW Group announced its decision to build its US plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Continuous expansion of the plant with extensive additions and the decision to build the successful BMW X models in Spartanburg have made the plant the largest manufacturing facility in the BMW Group production network within the space of 25 years. During the ceremony to mark the anniversary, the all-new BMW X3 rolled off the production line in Spartanburg. More than 1.5 million BMW X3 vehicles have been delivered to customers worldwide since it was first launched at the end of 2003. The new BMW X3 will be launched in fall 2017.

The BMW i3 continues to build on its successful start to life in both the global new vehicle registration rankings and various major competitions. Most recently, the all-electric BMW i3 (94Ah) was crowned the winner of the World Urban Car Award 2017 presented at the New York International Auto Show. The i3 combines a vehicle concept developed from day one to provide pure-electric mobility in urban areas -featuring a passenger cell made from carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) -and powerful BMW eDrive technology with an extremely powerful high-voltage battery to increase the car's range by around 50 percent.

The BMW X3 launched the mid-size Sports Activity Vehicle segment when it arrived on the scene in 2003. More than 1.5 million units of the X3 have since rolled off the assembly line and now the third-generation model is ready to take over the baton.

The new BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo combines the long-distance comfort of a luxury sedan with the aesthetic appeal of a coupe. Its design embodies a rigorous process of development which has elevated both the functional strengths of this body concept and the car's sense of sporting elegance to new heights.

The BMW Group continued the positive sales trend of the past months, with sales in May totaling 208,447 vehicles, a 5.1% increase year-on-year. With its three premium brands, BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce, the BMW Group sold 988,185 vehicles in the first five months, up 5.7%.

The BMW 2 Series Coupe and BMW 2 Series Convertible have raised the bar in the premium compact class in terms of dynamic prowess, aesthetic appeal and emotional richness. Scheduled for launch in July 2017, the new models promise to build on this successful concept. They feature sharper front-end styling, LED headlights fitted as standard, further interior upgrades and new connectivity services. And they also offer unbeatable sports performance, courtesy of rear-wheel drive (unique in the segment) working in tandem with efficient power transfer systems. More than 140,000 units of the Leipzig-built models have been delivered to customers so far. The biggest markets are the USA, Great Britain and Germany.

The BMW Group is using this year's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Esteto unveil the BMW Concept 8 Series, the essence of a modern-day BMW coupe wrapped up in an enthralling design study. The study car will serve as a preview of a forthcoming BMW model -the new BMW 8 Series Coupe, slated for launch in 2018 and part of the biggest model offensive in the company's history. The NUMBER ONE > NEXT strategy sees the BMW Group aiming to significantly increase sales and revenues in the luxury class, and the BMW 8 Series Coupe plays an important role here.

BMW Brilliance Automotive (BBA) recently opened the newly-built north section of its automotive plant in Dadong/Shenyang, China. The first long-wheelbase version of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan rolled off the production line during the opening ceremony. The northern extension comprises all production areas of a full plant and boasts a highly-advanced production system with the latest sustainability standards. With its two production locations in Dadong and Tiexi, BBA will have a total annual capacity of up to 450,000 units.
