Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority Exhibit Commitment to Thriving Local Art Scene

Bespoke works of art created by Emirati artist Mohammed Kazem, commissioned by the Rolls-Royce Art Program, have been unveiled at an exclusive event at Manarat Al Saadiyat, in association with Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) and Abu Dhabi Motors.

Mohammed Kazem's particular interest in using latitude and longitude coordinates in his work are demonstrated in both the sculpture and Bespoke Rolls-Royce Wraith, with the localities of craftspeople who worked on the car reflected in both designs. The sculpture, made of metal, comprises a stack of these data points melted together to form an abstract shape. The roof lining of the accompanying motor includes a unique starlight headliner displaying the same coordinates as the sculpture, linking the two pieces through this exclusive artistic feature.

Commissioned to create a unique work of art, Mohammed Kazem is the first ever Emirati to be featured in the Rolls-Royce Art Program, marking an exciting moment for the marque and the city's vibrant and thriving art scene.

In a similar vein to the artwork on display, the event's theme, including the F&B, took inspiration from the co-ordinates of three significant locations: St Gallen - the studio where Kazem created the sculpture; Goodwood - the main inspiration for both sculpture and car, and Abu Dhabi, representing the artist's UAE roots and location of the reveal.  The evening was made possible by affinity partners, ADS Securities and Seven Tides.

Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), who co-hosted the evening event together with Rolls Royce, chose this occasion to reveal details of a new initiative created for the 9th edition of Abu Dhabi Art, the annual art fair and exhibition platform taking place at Manarat Al Saadiyat from 8-11 November 2017.

The newly launched initiative will form part of Beyond, an annual exhibition of large-scale sculptures and installations organized by Abu Dhabi Art and located throughout the city of Abu Dhabi. It will be dedicated to supporting and providing opportunities for emergent U.A.E. artists. Following his involvement in the Rolls-Royce Art Program, established artist Mohammed Kazem and artist and curator Cristiana de Marchi will spearhead the initiative for 2017, which will be called Beyond: Emerging Artists.

Beyond: Emerging Artists will see Mohammed Kazem and Cristiana de Marchi select 3 U.A.E. based artists to undertake a tailor-made artist program with them, which will include workshops, seminars, study abroad and time spent in conversation with a range of arts professionals in the UAE and internationally. At the end of the program the artists will be commissioned to create works for exhibition at Abu Dhabi Art 2017 and the works will remain on exhibition for an additional 2 months afterwards.

The three artists chosen by Mohammed Kazem and Cristiana de Marchi to take part in the inaugural Beyond: Emerging Artists initiative are Alaa Edriss, Jumairy and Shaikha Al Mazrou. They will begin research on their projects in May 2017. The works realized at the end of the program will be on display at Abu Dhabi Art in November 2017 and for two months afterwards.

Mohammed Kazem's Rolls-Royce art work is open to the public at Abu Dhabi Motors until the end of Ramadan.
