Lamborghini Huracan Winter Ice Driving Academy

Frosty raging bull

"Very special gift for automotive enthusiasts. Everything we've all wanted to do, and we did it!"

"Prior to Valentines Day, I celebrated the long-awaited ice driving academy onboard the Lamborghini Huracan"said Issam

"The "610" in the Huracan's designation is the amount of power this new supercar packs and the "4" is for all wheel drive"

"The Huracan's interior is, humbly, one of the finest that I've sat in"

"The precise home sweet home where Lamborghini was born to ride!" said Issam

If I reckon my last professional ice driving academy, it was with Volkswagen two years ago. At that time, I laid my hands on the new VW Golf Mark 7, 4motion and diesel in northern Sweden. This time was different. Who said dreams can't come true? A frozen lake about one hour and a half north of Stockholm by plane (Arvidsjaur) is the precise home sweet home where a Lamborghini was born to ride!

Date: 11th of February
Location: Arjeplog, Ullahsjön Lake, Sweden

Here I am, with a set of brand new Lamborghini Huracans on Ullahsjön Lake Circuit, the surface of which is frozen to a thickness of about 40cm. Lamborghini wants to prove that its exotic machine likes to play in the snow. That's why I was personally the only creature and media from the Middle East to attend, courtesy of Lamborghini in Sweden.

Winter Ice Driving Academy in USA
The 2015 Lamborghini Winter Academia is available in "Intensive" and "Advanced" programs which will allow participants to test drive the Huracan and Aventador on snow and ice in different venues. The Intensive program is a one-day course focusing on dynamic driving techniques and performance handling with the objective of improving the driver's skills. It has taken place in locations such as Aspen, Colorado, between February 5 and 8, as well as in Livigno on February 21, 22, 23 and 24.

As for the Advanced program, this is a two-day driving program for those willing to test Lamborghini's cars to the maximum. Day one will be organized in small groups, while day two is reserved for more one-on-one coaching to help the driver learn more about braking control, performance driving and the ideal driving line with help from video reviews and telemetry. It was organized between February 24 and 26 in Livigno.

$6,000 is the price package for two days of driving, but the price includes two nights of room and board, food, and a multimedia package so you can recall the experience once the adrenaline wears off!

Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4
I find out that Lamborghini's newest model, the Huracan, has what it takes to live up to the legacy left behind by its predecessor, the Gallardo. The mighty Huracan LP 610-4 has powered its way through snow and ice, in a high speed lesson of power and all wheel drive traction.

Name
The new Huracan has been developed from scratch down to the very last detail and, like the Gallardo and most other Lamborghini models, derives its name from the world of bullfighting. The fighting bull Huracan of the Spanish Conte de la Patilla breed was known for his outstanding courage and strong sense of attack. He fought in Alicante in August 1879, showing his unrelenting character and remaining defiant and invincible, thus entering into the legend of fighting bulls' history.

Design
The Huracan revolutionizes the design language of the Gallardo and is pure in its lines: precise technology and top level craftsmanship meet an audacious design with sharp edges, monolithic and sculptured volumes and precise surfaces. The starting point is the silhouette of the Huracan, born out of the desire of creating an automobile, whose profile is defined by only one line that merges the front with the cockpit and the rear of the car. The lateral windows come together to create a hexagonal form inserted like a glass jewel in the car's profile.

Also by night is the Huracan unmistakably a Lamborghini. Not only are the main headlamps equipped with full LED illumination, but all other light functions also feature state-of-the-art LED technology as a standard feature for the first time in the segment.

Interior
The interior is dominated by an innovative cockpit. A 12.3 inch full-color TFT instrument panel delivers all car information to the driver, from rev counter to navigation maps and infotainment functions, and can be configured by the driver in different setups. Fine Nappa leather and Alcantara distinguish the interior, with several color combinations offered to ensure broad individualization options. The design of the dashboard and central tunnel underline a new lightness in the interior. Superb craftsmanship guarantees the highest quality and sense of luxury throughout.

Chassis and powertrain
Systematic lightweight design and Automobili Lamborghini's extensive expertise in carbon fiber come together in the Huracan's new hybrid chassis - an integrated structure of carbon and aluminum elements. With a dry weight of 1,422 kg, it enables not only the excellent power-to-weight ratio of just 2.33 kilograms per horse power, but also guarantees race-car precision with outstanding stiffness.

The new 5.2 liter V10 engine delivers a maximum power of 610 HP at 8,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 560 Nm at 6.500 rpm. In the new ''Iniezione Diretta Stratificata'' (IDS), direct and indirect gasoline injections are smartly combined. This will result in more power and torque with lower fuel consumption and emissions compared with the Gallardo V10 engine. The top speed of over 325 kph and the acceleration from 0 to 100 kph in 3.2 seconds and to 200 kph in 9.9 seconds only partially describe the dynamic experience at the wheel of the Huracan.

Driving Impressions
The Lamborghini Academia is an extraordinary driving experience with the unique opportunity to ignore the real world and experience an unforgettable adventure - as I did! As for us as journalists, we didn't do the basic skills knowledge, but regular participants will improve their skills with Lamborghini driving instructors.

This next bit sounds crazy, and I'll admit it, also unbelievably fun. Who doesn't want to punch the gas pedal in a 610 horsepower Lamborghini while drifting between snow roundabouts? The surprising thing is that we didn't drive with any studded or spiked tires. We were driving with normal on-road-going tires but for winter!

Controlling the Huracan through different modes was extraordinary. I was able to customize the aspects of the car on whatever condition. I admit that the weight distribution and all wheel drive system makes the Huracan a far better version than the outgoing Gallardo.

How was our day?
We started in the slalom and 180 degree power sliding to get familiar with the car. The lesson plan included sessions on drifting in snow, emergency braking and a full-lap road course entirely on snow. We moved on to the small circle to do some drifting. Then we kicked off the rest of the day handling the closed circuit (trying it in both directions). Handling: the track is about 2.2 Km. Four laps take about 10 minutes.

The power of the V10 engine is brought via the new 7 speed dual clutch transmission ''Lamborghini Doppia Frizione'' (LDF) and fully electronically controlled four wheel drive system. The different driving modes of the Huracan can be selected via a driving dynamics selector switch in the steering wheel - from traction-oriented on the road to extreme performance on the race track, with three setups of the dynamics system: STRADA, SPORT and CORSA. The different modes ensure extensive modification in road behavior of the Huracan. In particular, such as driving on ice, these modes influence the setups of several systems, such as the gearbox and engine behavior, the sound, the four wheel drive system and electronic stability control. The Huracan's carbon-ceramic brakes are a standard feature for consistently superb braking performance. The ''Lamborghini Dynamic Steering'' variable steering ratio system and magneto-rheological suspension damper control are both available as options for further customization of the Huracan's dynamic behavior. They are also calibrated via the three different dynamic setups.
