Latest innovations in automotive technology presented by Mercedes-Benz at International Conference on Future Mobility 2016

Autonomous vehicles, smart, clean and connected mobility, and energy efficient commuting are among the hot topics being discussed at the 2nd International Conference on Future Mobility, which took place in Dubai from 14th - 15th November 2016.

Held under the patronage of Dr. Rashid Ahmed Bin-Fahad, Minister of State, and Chairman of ESMA Board of Directors, the two-day conference is an important platform for government authorities, automotive consultants, manufacturers and relevant industry players to exchange ideas, determine the best practices and gain knowledge about the latest global developments and advancements in technology.

As a global pioneer of future mobility, Mercedes-Benz showcased its portfolio of alternative drive systems, connected, shared mobility solutions, and a vision for the region - the screening of a video showcasing the first ever autonomous drive from Dubai to Abu Dhabi by a Mercedes-Benz E-Class was a crowning moment that highlighted Mercedes-Benz's determination to lead the industry into a new era.

In his opening remarks, which stressed the need to abandon traditional approaches in order to meet emerging realities in the automotive industry, Mark De Haes, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Cars Middle East said: "We are in the middle of an automotive revolution. Mobility as we've known it is changing dramatically and the change is happening now. Daimler anticipated and started preparing for this a long time ago. The International Conference on Future Mobility is a great platform for us to demonstrate our leading technologies which we hope will contribute to Dubai's efforts in becoming smart, sustainable and connected city."

In developing alternative drive systems, Daimler's stellar record speaks for itself, with research and investment in hybrid drive, electric motors and fuel cells - all driven by the goal of a future that is emission-free. Earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz presented its plug-in hybrid model strategy, which includes the launch of 10 new hybrid models by 2017 and the new EQ brand, which will offer customers a comprehensive ecosystem of electric mobility.

Mercedes-Benz also displayed a wide range of new models that represented its latest technological innovations - this included the B-Class Electric Drive, the new E-Class which has been recognized as the most technologically advanced sedan on the road, and the GLE 500 e 4MATIC - the first SUV plug-in hybrid model from a luxury automotive brand.
